South Shore Staffing looks back at the crazy year that was 2020

How ironic is it that “2020” is considered perfect vision? No one could have predicted what was ahead for us as the calendar flipped over from 2019. And while there are a few things we may want to forget about this year, there were also some things we’d like to remember. So enjoy our look back on the year that was full of surprises!

But, 2020, don’t be too surprised if we cheer a little too loudly when the clock strikes midnight on the 31st!

January 2020:

Happy New Year! We launched our new Facebook page and were excited for another terrific year! We were so optimistic about the year ahead.

Susan Marks was named our January 2020 Employee of the Month for all of her excellent work for our client, Needham Electric Supply. Congratulations, Susan!

February 2020:

Senior Staffing Specialist, Natalie Chandler, attended MetroSouth Chamber of Commerce’s Good Morning Metro South event at the Thorny Lea Golf Club. Congressman Joe Kennedy III was one of several notable speakers at this local event.

March 2020:

March came in like a lion for sure as Coronavirus swept through the region and sent us all home to work. We all prepared our “virtual offices” and assumed we’d be home for a few weeks until things could get “back to normal”.

April 2020:

As the realities of this pandemic became clearer, our staff adjusted to remote work and started to think about how we might ready the office for in-person work when it was safe again to do so.

May 2020:

Christina Refford joined the South Shore Staffing team as our new Marketing Associate, working remotely of course.

June 2020:

In a sign of how quickly our business had changed, we offered practical advice about virtual interviews as we were continuing to screen applicants and place people in new jobs.

July 2020:

We welcomed back Kim DeVito who helped us with business development and recruiting.

We also spoke directly to employers about how they could continue to help working parents as Covid-19 restrictions were being relaxed a bit. Juggling work life and childcare became a difficult reality for many South Shore families.

August 2020:

South Shore Staffing Summer Outing 2020

While still practicing social distancing and mask-wearing in 90-degree heat, we got together for our annual Summer Outing!

September 2020:

We celebrated National Staffing Week with Dunkin’ Gift Cards for all our current employees. We really do have the best employees and are proud of their commitment to our clients in the midst of a global pandemic.

And a big hooray to Janie Avery who was named South Shore Staffing’s 2020 Employee of the Year! Thank you for all you do, Janie!

October 2020:

To mark Boss’s Day on October 16th, we published 10 Things that Make a Great Boss, while also giving a shout-out to our own wonderful boss, Linda McDaid.

Knowing so many recent college graduates were struggling to find work post graduation, we outlined ways a staffing agency might help them get started in a career.

Also: BOO! (and Happy Halloween!)

South Shore Staffing Halloween 2020

November 2020:

Our important post about Unemployment Fraud was republished by the South Shore Chamber of Commerce.

We sent out a reminder to our social-media followers to remember our veterans:

10 socially-distant ways to express appreciation on Veterans Day

We suggested ways our employees could “clean up” their social media, as well as laughed about all the things we are saying in 2020 that would have been unimaginable a year ago.

December 2020:

We started the Staffing Stars series on Facebook to share helpful tips we’ve learned over our many years in the staffing industry.

Finally, we made donations to local charities for the holidays while also providing our readers with plenty of excellent South Shore organizations they may choose to support this year.

What will 2021 hold? We anticipate a lot of big changes and exciting news! Stay tuned to see what is new at the Shore!
